“Our Souls at Night” Trailer: Romance Knows No Age with Robert Redford and Jane Fonda

Often the most intriguing trailers are the ones that say a lot with very little, or even no dialogue. Take the trailer for Our Souls at Night, which, over the course of a minute depicts Robert Redford and Jane Fonda sitting and driving in contentment before Fonda sidles up towards Redford so that she can rest her head on his shoulder.

Based on the Kent Haruf’s novel of the same name and adapted by The Fault in Our Stars scribes Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Webb, the synopsis revolves around Addie (Fonda) who has been widowed for many years. After visiting her neighbor, Louis (Redford), who, like Addie, has been a widower for a long time, form a relationship. A teaser trailer depicting a couple in love enjoying a drive together seems to complement such a story nicely.

While this won’t be the last time we see Redford, who has another movie, David Lowry’s Old Man and the Gun in post-production, one feels we should cherish any performance we can get out of him before he embarks on his overdue and well-deserved retirement from acting. A well-crafted love story sounds like the right way to wave goodbye to him.

Our Souls at Night will be available on Netflix from September 29th and also stars Judy Greer, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Bruce Dern.
